Protecting the Future of Veterinary Care at TAHO:

First and foremost, thank you for the trust you have placed in The Animal Health Organization (TAHO) and for allowing us to care for the animals who are such important members of your family.

I am writing to share an important update regarding an upcoming adjustment to the cost of some of our veterinary services.

Our mission has always been rooted in a deeply held belief: high-quality veterinary medicine should be accessible to as many animals and families as possible, regardless of their financial circumstances. Affordability is not simply part of our pricing strategy—it is fundamental to who we are and why our organization exists.

For many years, we have worked diligently to absorb rising expenses wherever possible. Unfortunately, the cost of providing veterinary medicine has increased to a point where maintaining our current pricing ultimately compromises our ability to remain properly staffed, equipped, and available to the families who depend on us.

The Greatest Challenge: The Veterinary Workforce Shortage

The most significant challenge facing our organization is the ongoing shortage of qualified veterinary professionals. Across the profession, hospitals are competing for a limited number of veterinarians. There are currently approximately 24,000 open positions seeking veterinarians in the United States, and 89% of practices are actively recruiting. Recruiting and retaining these individuals now requires substantially greater investment in competitive compensation, benefits, continuing education, professional development, and sustainable staffing levels.

Exceptional veterinary care requires exceptional people.

We cannot fulfill our mission without skilled professionals available to provide that care, and we believe those professionals deserve to be fairly compensated for the tremendous medical and emotional responsibilities they carry every day.

The alternative—understaffing, excessive workloads, loss of experienced professionals, reduced appointment availability, and ultimately diminished patient care—is not one we are willing to accept.

The Broader Cost of Veterinary Medicine

In addition to staffing, nearly every aspect of operating a modern veterinary hospital has become more expensive. Medications, laboratory services, medical and surgical supplies, diagnostic equipment, technology, utilities, insurance, facility expenses, and other essential services have all increased in cost.

At the same time, advancements in veterinary medicine allow us to provide better diagnostics, treatments, pain management, and outcomes than ever before. Maintaining access to these capabilities requires continued investment in our people, equipment, training, and facilities.

A Difficult but Necessary Decision

We recognize that our clients are experiencing many of these same financial pressures in their own lives. We understand that an explanation does not make a price increase easier, and we did not make this decision lightly.

Our goal is not to abandon our commitment to affordability. It is to ensure that TAHO remains in existence, properly staffed, appropriately equipped, financially sustainable, and available to continue to care for the pets in our community.

Although some of our prices are changing, our mission is not.

We will continue working to keep veterinary care as affordable as reasonably possible while never compromising the quality, safety, and compassion our patients deserve. If cost is ever a concern, we encourage you to speak with our team so we can discuss available treatment options, payment resources, pet insurance considerations, and other potential solutions whenever possible.
